The Latin American Motorcycle Association (L.A.M.A)
was founded in 1977 in Chicago's notorious Humboldt Park neighborhood
by Mario Nieves. From its inception L.A.M.A. was intended to be
a Moto-Touring club with truly Democratic ideas. A lone chapter
until the first chapter was started in Miami in 1995; when L.A.M.A
became a National Association and the first National President was
elected in 1996.
In 1999 L.A.M.A became an International Association
with chapters in Puerto Rico, Mexico, U.S.A. & Cuba. Presently L.A.M.A
has additional chapters in Uruguay, Venezuela, Argentina, Spain,
Canada, Germany, Italy and the Dominican Republic, Brazil, Colombia
and France. L.A.M.A was intended as the club of the 21st century
and is a work in Progress, to be continued by the flow and ideas
of new members in near and far off lands!
L.A.M.A is a club without borders. We have evolved
into an "International Humanist Association". We accept working
people from all walks of life regardless of nationality, race, color,
religion, social class, gender, age, brand of motorcycle, etc. We
believe that it is more important to be human than to be Latin,
Asian, black, white, etc!
L.A.M.A is one of the most respected motorcycle
associations in the world. As a L.A.M.A member there are doors opened
to you in every city where we have chapters. To know L.A.M.A is
to visit the other chapters, especially chapters in other nations.
L.A.M.A is recognized as one of the most active
long distance riding clubs in the world. Our women (DAMAS DE LAMA)
accompany us on their own motorcycles, riding extreme distances,
which most Bikers find way too far and others find a challenge of
endurance.

Colors
The International
patch is issued to all Associate and International members of L.A.MA.
A service rocker (not shown) is added for each subsequent year of
membership.
The Prospect
patch, AKA "P" patch, is issued to any International member
who is pursuing full membership to a National or International chapter. All
prospect members must wear the "P" patch for a total three
months.
The L.A.M.A
rockers are added to the "P" patch to create the Probate
set. Prospect members who are voted to Probate status must wear this
set of patches for a total of 3 months.
Full Colors are
awarded to Probate members who successfully complete the 6 month probation
period. Full Colors are always awarded in a ceremonial fashion.
The Damas de L.A.M.A
patch (AKA "Wonder Women"¯ patch) is awarded to full color
female chapter members who pay chapter membership dues, own and ride
their own motorcycle. The patch identifies this chapter member from
a spousal member who does not own or ride a motorcycle.
It has been a long tradition of motorcycle
social organizations that only male chapter members could become full
chapter members and wear full colors. There are still motorcycle organizations
holding on to this rule. However, at L.A.M.A. all members who own
a motorcycle enjoy the same privileges and for this reason the DAMAS
DE L.A.M.A. patch is awarded.
NOT TO BE
CONFUSED!
The issuance of each patch toward the earning
of full colors is always decided by a Chapter vote. The patches,
logos and insignias are the sole property of L.A.M.A international
and are copyrighted and trademarked. One DOES NOT buy their way
into our association, and the COLORS MUST be returned if you quit,
voted out of the association or asked to surrender them by the
President while you are a Prospect or Probate.
L.A.M.A. does not give away or sell its colors...the
right to have them must be earned. In this fashion we assure only
the highest quality of membership for our chapters and assure
the integrity of L.A.M.A.
